A Call to Courage

Many men sense a growing desire for a more robust spiritual life, to walk with God and to be used by Him. They long for meaning, purpose, and a life that impacts eternity. They long to matter.

The Man for the Day conference is designed to equip and encourage men to be the men they long to be, the men God has created them to be, and the men our culture desperately needs.

There is a growing movement of God among the men in the Athens area. Let’s see that movement change our lives, our families, our churches, and our community for Christ.

The event schedule will be provided as we get closer to the event. The Friday session will begin in the evening. Saturday’s session will begin in the morning and we anticipate wrapping up before lunch.

Who is invited to attend?

Men of all generations! We welcome middle schoolers (ages 12+), high schoolers, college students, fathers, grandfathers, and church groups across the region.

What is included with my $30 registration?

Your registration covers admission to all main sessions, conference materials, and a physical copy of The Man for the Day: Answering the Call to Godly Manhood by J. Josh Smith.

Are meals provided?

Full meals are not served during conference sessions, but coffee and light refreshments will be available Saturday morning. We encourage groups to gather for dinner before Friday’s session or lunch following Saturday’s conclusion.

Where do I park, and which entrance should I use?

Enter campus from Highway 78 and enter the Main Entrance doors at the front of the building to enter the Worship Center.

If you park in the back lot, you can use any entrance to the church building using Entrances A, C, or D. Volunteers will be at each entrance to help you find your way to the Worship Center. View campus maps here.

H.B. Charles is the Pastor and Teacher at the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church of Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida, where he has served since 2008. He is primarily responsible for preaching-teaching, vision casting, and leadership development. Outside of his ministry with his congregation, he regularly speaks and teaches at churches, conferences, and conventions around the country. Charles is the author of several books, including It Happens After Prayer, On Pastoring, and Psalms of Trust. Charles and his wife, Crystal, have three children: H. B. III, Natalie, and Hailey.



James Merritt serves as lead pastor of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia, which is located in metro Atlanta. He is a graduate of Southern Seminary where he earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy. From 2001-2002, he served as President of the Southern Baptist Convention.

He has a television ministry, Touching Lives, which reaches over 500,000 viewers each week and 140 countries around the world.

James lives in Gainesville, Georgia, is married to his lovely Teresa and has three sons (James, Jonathan, Joshua) and five grandchildren.



Mark Richt is a former college football coach, television analyst, author, and motivational speaker known for his integrity, leadership, and faith-driven approach to life and competition.

A 35-year coaching veteran, Richt served as the head football coach at the University of Georgia from 2001 to 2015 and at the University of Miami from 2016 to 2018. During his tenure, he compiled an overall record of 171–64, earning two SEC championships, five SEC division titles, and two ACC Coastal Division titles. He was named SEC Coach of the Year twice and ACC Coach of the Year once.

Before becoming a head coach, Richt spent 15 seasons as an assistant at Florida State University under Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Bowden, mentoring Heisman Trophy winners and helping guide the Seminoles to two national championships.

Beyond his accomplishments on the field, Coach Richt is widely respected for his commitment to character, family, and faith. He is the author of Make the Call: Game-Day Wisdom for Life’s Defining Moments, and currently serves as a college football analyst for the ACC Network.

Mark and his wife, Katharyn, reside in Athens, Georgia.



Thomas C. Settles, III serves as Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Church in Athens, Georgia, and as the FCA Campus Director at the University of Georgia. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Thomas committed to full-time ministry while attending Morehouse College in Atlanta. Upon graduating in 2003, he earned his Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University.

Passionate about local church discipleship, Thomas is dedicated to equipping believers to live out the gospel beyond the walls of the church. In addition to his local pastoral and campus ministry, he serves on the board of directors for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Downtown Ministries, as well as the supervising board of the University Religious Life Association at UGA.

Thomas and his wife, Avita, have been married for over 10 years and reside in Athens with their four children.



Carlos Sibley has served as Senior Pastor of Watkinsville First Baptist Church in Watkinsville, Georgia, since 2000, faithfully leading the church to impact their community with the gospel.

Carlos and his wife, Carla, have been married for 36 years. They reside in the Watkinsville area and are blessed with five children and four grandchildren.



J. Josh Smith serves as Senior Pastor of Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Bogart, Georgia. He is a graduate of Liberty University, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Having served as a missionary in Central Europe and ministered in over 25 countries, Josh is passionate about exalting Christ and advancing His kingdom through the local church. A core focus of his ministry is raising up men as godly leaders in their families, churches, and communities—a theme reflected in his books, The Titus Ten: Foundations for Godly Manhood and The Man for the Day: Answering the Call for Godly Manhood.

Josh lives in Bogart, Georgia with his wife, Andrea, and their five children: Lily, Gracie, Josie, Annie, and Josiah.
